Practical: Write a review of the social media platform of your choice.
Social Network Sites (SNS) are used more and more by both the young and the old in everyday life. The line is becoming blurred as to who uses which SNS because they are all merging and being used by a diverse range of people from many cultures (Hinton & Hjorth, 2013).
For me, Twitter is a SNS that I will be making much more use of in the future and here is why:
If the right personalities are followed on Twitter, there is much to be learned. Following the right people can allow different perspectives and valuable insights to be gained on people and places. Following someone on Twitter is like looking at the world through their eyes. There is much happiness to be had by seeing the world through other people’s eyes (Constine, 2013).
Twitter allows conversation not just announcements. We don’t have to read through hundreds of pages of different texts to learn, and we don’t need a personal friendship with someone to find out how they feel about certain topics (Pass, 2014).
Web 2.0 has given way to a medium where everyone can now share content. The beauty of Twitter is that because it has a small character limit, people cut through the noise and just say what is on their minds in a condensed, intelligent way, making information absorption quick and easy (Hinton & Hjorth, 2013).
I intend to follow people who interest me and who I feel I can learn from. Photographers, Lecturers, Academics, Programmers to name a few… Who will you follow?

Hi Victoria, I had a very similar experience with the quiz for week 8 - I thought I knew it and then got a bit confused about where that apostrophe is meant to go!
ReplyDeleteWith your review, you've clearly done a fair bit of research and you have selected some very good references. Perhaps you could also include some info on how easy twitter is to access and use and the usage of it as a social networking tool? Just in case a member of your audience was unfamiliar with twitter.
