Peer Review

Practical: Review a peer’s (ie. another student) Storify submission and ask the following questions:

Who do you think is the audience?
What did you learn about the event?
What else (if anything) could be included that would make the story more interesting or have more impact?
If the structure is confusing, how could it be improved?
What do you like about the story?

Answer these questions, and share your review with your peer. Your tone should be constructive and encouraging. The purpose of this is to not only encourage sharing, but also public review and response. It can be confronting, but we need to learn to have our work and ideas critiqued publically as media writers.
You should record your response on your blog and share it with your peer.

The Review:

  • Who do you think is the audience?

The local community and the Storify targets more specifially on the dog show, so any person who has an interest in dogs would find the curation appealing.

  • What did you learn about the event?

The Royal Queensland Show, or EKKA is Queensland's largest annual event. It was held from the 8th - 17th August and a dog competition was held at this time along with many other events.  Out of over 2,000 entrants in the 2014 EKKA an Australian Shepherd from Melbourne won Best In Show and a Siberian Husky came Runner-up in the Best In Show category.

Every text section was informative so to tell you everything I learned about the event would require me to re-write the event in its entirety.   I think this is what kept me reading and wanting more.

  • What else (if anything) could be included that would make the story more interesting or have more impact?

Pictures of the dogs, especially the winners would have added more impact and made the story more interesting.

  • If the structure is confusing, how could it be improved?

The structure was not confusing.  I loved reading the Storify; it interested me from beginning to end.  There were only a couple of areas where I could make suggestions for change that suited this review questionnaire section.

Tenses:
Present and past tenses were used together in the second paragraph:

"There is the conformation dog show, agility, obedience, dancing with dogs as well as a Greyhound display. There were over 2,000 entrants in the dog section, with the top dogs of Australia all verging the Brisbane Showgrounds to compete for the coveted 'Best in Show' prize!"

Number usage:
The Dog Section at Ekka is a "cannot miss" event, so be there next year for 9 [should be nine] more days of interesting fun!

Taking in the positive, rather than the negative:
And I would probably split this sentence up for higher impact:

The Dog section at the EKKA is an exciting (replaces "cannot miss") event.  Be here next year for nine days of fun and excitement.

  • What do you like about the story?
I really enjoyed your Storify Curation.  I loved that it focused on only one area.  When I did my event I found that because there was so much going on, my thoughts and ideas became scattered.  My event was in Rockhampton and nowhere near as large as the Ekka so I can only imagine how difficult it must have been for you Jacquelyn.    Thank you for allowing me to review it.

Vicki
