Inquiry: Review two different examples of curation: One is data driven - The 25 Best Hotels by
http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/TravelersChoice-Hotels-g1
– and the other is written by editors – Gold Standard Hotels -

Consider the differences. If the purpose and audience is similar, how does the way the information is structured and presented make a difference to the way it might be received?
Record your response on your blog.
Trip Advisor presents their 25 Best Hotels as an image or two with a grab from the full review. This type of review gives a quick run down of what each place is like, and if one does interest the viewer, they can expand the review to read it in more depth. Each review is presented as a click through. Readers just click through a series of images and "grabs" for a quick overview.
This site is not advertising a holiday or trying to entice readers to take a well-earned break.
This site is driven by users who give reviews and as such is full of factual information and opinions that can help users decide where to holiday for the best value.
Gold standard hotels present their reviews in a fuller format. Each review is under the other on a full page layout. The review is written in full and there is no "grab" to appeal to the viewer. Instead it is spread out, to be read in a much slower, consuming and indulgent way. Images are used to entice, and descriptions are designed to arouse the senses.
It is written in such a way to make users feel like they are there, apart of the history and the sweeping landscapes.
It is geared to entice users to take that long awaited break and dip into the luxury that these great escapes provide.
These sites have totally different and opposing audiences. One site is written by the people, for the people; the other is an advertising site designed to entice and promote the hotels listed. The two serve different purposes and meet their target audience in the way they were designed to.
Which site is better depends entirely on which target audience you belong to.
