Figures

Technical: Complete Quiz 6 – Figures
a. Read Chapter 11 of Hicks, English for Journalists (Figures) to prepare for this quiz.
b. Complete the quiz so that you get 100% correct (you will be able to make numerous attempts).
c. Reflect on this briefly on your blog – Did you find the questions difficult? Did you have any problems in specific areas?

I did very well in the quiz, I had the book on hand so to get any wrong would have been a little silly of me and guess what?  I still did.

I would like to discuss question seven in particular.

Week 6 Quiz, Incorrect answer (Ames, 2014)

In the book 'English for Journalists' Hicks, (2013) p. 161 it states:

"Get dates right. 'Between' must be followed by 'and'; 'from' by 'to'.  Do not write 'between 1914-18'.  Instead write either 'in 1914-18' or 'between 1914 and 1918' or 'from 1914 to 1918'."
So I am somewhat confused by this question.
Perhaps it could be written a different way?

Such as:
Which is the correct way to write a span of dates f you are comparing spans
(Between * and *) Select one:
  1. Between 1914-18 and 1939-45
  2. Between 1914-45
  3. Between Nineteen fourteen and Eighteen
