Compare media communication styles

Compare media communication styles
Review and compare the way the same story is presented in different ways:
Questions to consider are:

1) Who is the audience for each piece?
2)What’s the angle in the news story?
3)What’s the key message in the statement/press conference?

You have no power here – be gone!

If you are a fan of the “Wizard of Oz” you could be forgiven for thinking I am reciting a famous line from the movie; however those words depict perfectly the message in all three news articles we have been asked to review this week.

Speaking to their fans, and any who will spread the word, the Essendon football club president announced that the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) had no authority or grounds to issue the show cause notices on 34 of the clubs past players. There were no cries of innocence from the Essendon chairman Paul Little, but rather the ASADA had no right to demand the proceedings in the first place (Little, 2014), (News, 2014).

To ensure the news was heard by all fans it was broadcast via text, video and press release. The club's press release statement took 54 words to say “no comment,” (Little, 2014).
